Chosen final idea

Chosen idea

Introduction
For my final idea I have chosen the theme of Christmas in London. As the Christmas season is on its way I will be able to capture some great images capturing the Christmas spirit.
I wish to capture the spirit of Christmas in my images which I am able to do as families are going shopping, Christmas decorations are being laid out and everyone is getting in the mood for the shopping, the sharing, the love and also the food.

Examples

The first image is of Christmas decorations over a street during Christmas with the traffic passing underneath it. One side is blurred and the other is standing still this is achieved by playing with the shutter speed while one side is standing still and the other is moving forward. The shutter speed determines how long the lens is open for to capture the image and movement comes out in blur or in colored lines. This image captures what people do around Christmas time which is either sit down, relax while enjoying the atmosphere or you are on the move gathering gifts, visiting family. This is not direct in the image but I see this meaning towards it. This image is rather dark but that makes the lights stand out. that would be the decorations and the traffic lights.

This image captures the atmosphere which each shop wants to create but only the higher end shops are able to achieve this amazing look. This shows the perfect shop that families want to go and buy their presents at as it has the perfect atmosphere for the whole family. The image is very bright and clear which includes the festive season colours (red, green, gold). The image has a good ratio of light and shadow which makes the bright colours stand out more. in this case it is the gold ribins and decorations.

This image shows what the city is doing for the tourists and the every day residents in London. The city has put up lights and decorations around landmarks and popular markets to create a nice atmosphere. For the tourists it is a great treat as it looks beautiful for the time they are there after they go home. For the residents of London it is a nice treat as family's and friends can just go out and have a good time while just walking around and looking at the decorations and the lights which have been set up. At least that is what I see in the image. I like this image the best as everything you can see compliments itself. The wheel itself is white with lights on it illuminating it. The trees have blue lights on them and the sky is blue as well complimenting the lights on the trees and the ground.

The final image depicts the great time a family and friends can have at this festive season. The atmosphere is great with lights, a Christmas tree and of Corse the ice rink. This simply shows a great atmosphere where people can relax, have a laugh and have a warm drink off the ice rink. This image is very positive as there are plenty of lights illuminating the ice rink and the buildings. I can see people holding hands on the ice showing support and or love. A Christmas tree is clearly shown in the background which is illuminated with lights.

Conclusion
All of these examples have some aspect which I wish to show off in these images but most of all I wish to show off how London looks like at Christmas with its decorations and people going out either to shop or just to relax somewhere nice.

Practices using aperture, shutter speed

Introduction
To get to know how to use the camera I had to experiment with its options and settings so I know which settings get the best quality images. However this varies depending on the lighting provided when taking the image.

Shutter speed

In this image is set up the shutter speed to 10 seconds in the middle of the night and used a torch to get the streaks of light in the image. I set up the camera on a bench clicked the button ran in front of the camera and started to wave my arm but technically I could write something in thin air using this technique making some amazing images.

In this image I have used normal shutters speed of 60th or 100th I’m not too sure. This image was taken in the morning and it was -13 degrees making the grass frozen and sparkling white. The sun had just come up over the tree line making it very bright however I still kept it in the shot due to the glare effect it has.

In this image I wanted to see how the image would turn out when taking it at 4000th of a second when it was very bright also I was in a car at the time. I rolled down the window, took the image and it mainly captured the rays which were entering the lens directly from the sun. You can see the tree line in the back but it is very dark.

Aperture

In this image the aperture quite low making the image lighter as it was very dark and this made the image much more dramatic. I like this image the most as you are able to see to see the fireplace itself but it is dark which make the fire stand out and this catches my eye. Aperture is used to make images more dramatic as aperture makes the images darker.

In this image the setting was rather light so I used the aperture to make this simple image quite dramatic by hiring the aperture so more less light travels in the lens making the image dramatic.        I focused the camera on the iPod being held by my niece while she took a photo.

This image was taken by my brother but I set up all the setting so the image is not as bright as the light is shining right at the camera creating lots of lens flare. I set up the aperture to be rather high so less light travels in the lens making the image darker.

Final idea- Christmas in London

Final idea- Christmas in London

Christmas
Everyone knows what Christ mas is and what it stands for, family, sharing, gifts, the Christmas spirit and togetherness. One of the additions of Christmas is the decorations set up all around London and the events set up for people to enjoy at this time of year.

What I wish to capture.
I would like to capture all of these aspects in my images as this season is coming up and I personally enjoy Christmas and what it stands for with its perks. I wish to capture how the city gives the citizens the opportunity to have a great time in the city with their family by setting up decorations, light and events specifically for people enjoying Christmas.

Conclusion
I wish to capture the ways the city gives to the people at the time of Christmas with decorations, events and providing festive atmospheres for family’s and couples.

Editing photographs in photoshop

Editing Photographs in Photoshop

First of all I needed to get an image and place it in Photoshop by clicking ‘file’ and selecting ‘place’.

Next a window pops up and asks you what image would you like to import and you browse you r computer for the correct file you wish to use.

Once the image was placed I cropped the image as it had a massive white background surrounding the image.

I cropped down the image so I only have only the image and no wasted screen space.

Once I had that done I placed another image and had to cut out the background around a person. For this is used a lasso tool to select an area on the image.

In the image above you can see that the highlighted area goes outside the image but on the image on the left you can see that I have multiple layers. Depending on what layer I have selected determines what will be affected by the editing.

Clicking the box I have shown with a red outline gives you the option to make your image black and white (or a selected area) which adds another layer.

I am also able to pick a tint if I want to instead of a black and white filter, as you can see the selected area has a filter on it now.

As I needed to get rid of the bacground I selected the eracer tool on the task-bar on the left and deleted anything on the certain area on  a spacific area.

I wanted to place the image in a certain place but only some of the image without the edges so it looks smooth. I did this with the clone stamp tool.

I select an image I wish to stamp by holding ‘alt’ and clicking on a certain part of an image. When I click and hold while moving the mouse the image starts apearing again in a different location on the same layer.

I repeated this in some different location to show that he is popping out at multiple places.

I could also change advanced settings of the colours with a few sliders by clicking a specific icon shown with a red square

I wanted to place this image sideways at one point so I had to turn it on an angle. To do this I went to ‘Edit’ and clicked ‘Free Transform’. I twisted it and placed it in the correct position and deleted what I needed so it looked like it was behind and object with the eraser tool.

I have finished most of the editing so the image is final all is needed to put in some finishing touches. Now I can condense all of these layers down into one image. I do this by right clicking on a layer and select the ‘Merge Visible’, after I have done this in the image below you can see it had condensed into one layer.

The final touch is a filter over the whole thing so the whole thing is coloured or black and white. I click on the ‘black and white’ tool. After this a task bar pops up and then you click ‘Tint’ when another task bar opens and now I was able to select a colour which is shown in an image on the left.

I did not want a colour on this image so I just placed a black and white filter on it to make the man black and white so he fit in the black and white image.

Those are the basic tools that you are able to use in photo shop. there are hundreds more tools that I can use and make sum outstanding images but i am not too familiar with them.
